Shane McMahon was "fired" from WWE after a lengthy feud with former Universal Champion Kevin Owens, but that didn't stop the company from bringing him back as the host of RAW Underground.
The new backstage segment was introduced as a way of freshening up the third hour of RAW due to declining ratings, and for the most part, it's been well-received. Recently, Shane was a guest on Corey Graves' "After The Bell" podcast, and he opened up about the newly introduced concept (which it's been reported was his idea).
"We are trying different things," he explained. "It’s a work in progress with the different format and changing things up of what’s been going on, especially in the third hour. It’s a way to showcase new talent and get people more exposure. It’s a faster pace and a little more intense. People seem to like it."
There's no denying that it has put the spotlight on many WWE Superstars in interesting ways thanks to RAW Underground and, surprisingly, Vince McMahon hasn't given up on it (yet). We'll just have to wait and see whether it becomes a permanent, significant part of the show moving forward.
