The latest edition of SmackDown Live for August 21, 2018 took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Here is a recap of the highlights from this episode for those who may have missed it:

— The Miz and Maryse start the show with a promo about Daniel Bryan, who comes out, followed by Brie Bella. After the heels run off, Bryan announces that Paige has granted them a mixed tag team match at Hell in a Cell, which will see Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella against The Miz and Maryse.

— Randy Orton defeated Jeff Hardy by disqualification after Hardy kicks Orton below the belt. They brawl after the match and Hardy stands tall.

— Both The Bar and The Good Brothers stake a claim to the SmackDown Tag Team Championship title shot and will face each other next week, possibly in a No. 1 contender's match.

— Peyton Royce defeated Naomi by pinfall

— Becky Lynch tries to explain why she attacked Charlotte Flair after their match at SummerSlam, with it boiling down to her being frustrated that she doesn't get enough support, even though the audience is clearly in her favor. (WWE doesn't want to tell the story of Becky not being a heel, so the writers are clearly hoping we just ignore all of this and go with the narrative they want to tell instead of going with the flow). Flair comes out and the two fight, before the rest of the women's roster tries to break them up. To further the point that they want Becky to be the heel, only the heels hold her back, while only the babyfaces hold back Flair.

— Rusev and Lana defeated Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega by submission after some help from Aiden English

— Now that he's disposed of Jeff Hardy and retained his title, Shinsuke Nakamura welcomes us to the United States of Nakamurica.

— AJ Styles is interviewed by Renee Young, but Samoa Joe quickly interrupts the two and attacks Styles.

— Carmella demands her rematch for the SmackDown Women's Championship from Paige. R-Truth interrupts to say Carmella has been ducking and dodging her for weeks and he wants that title match. Paige tells him to go away and he says she got lucky this time. Carmella will face Charlotte Flair next week.

— No Disqualification Match: The New Day defeated The Bludgeon Brothers by pinfall to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship!
