The latest edition of SmackDown Live for January 15, 2019 took place at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL.
Here is a recap of the most noteworthy highlights from this episode for those who may have missed it:
— After some backstage antics with The New Day and Heavy Machinery, Becky Lynch cut a promo about her upcoming title match against Asuka, prompting The Empress of Tomorrow to come out to stake her claim to the future win. The IIconics came out to talk some trash and this set up a match.
— Becky Lynch defeated Peyton Royce by submission. Following the match, Asuka is furious, rambling in Japanese. She attacks Billie Kay and the bell rings for a match. In a total squash, Asuka defeated Billie Kay by submission.
— AJ Styles cuts a promo at the merchandise and concessions area, tossing out shirts and talking about how people can eat hot dogs if they want to. He's attacked by Daniel Bryan. Security breaks them up.
— Jimmy Uso gets a rose and a hotel room key from Mandy Rose as a gift backstage.
— Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega are interviewed by Kayla Braxton. They say Almas is the future, he'll beat Rey Mysterio tonight and win the Royal Rumble and the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
— Samoa Joe jumps the gun and attacks Mustafa Ali before the bell rings.
— Andrade defeated Rey Mysterio by pinfall
— Jimmy Uso goes to Mandy Rose's hotel room to find her wearing lingerie. Someone pops out of the bathroom to take a bunch of pictures for blackmail. Jimmy shrugs it off, though, because he has Naomi with him. Naomi goes on the attack, but Mandy gets away.
— The Miz throws Shane McMahon a birthday bash with two cakes, a gift, a video package reflection of his career and a crowd rendition of Happy Birthday. They're interrupted by The Bar. After some trash talking, Shane volunteers The Miz for a match against Sheamus.
— The Miz defeated Sheamus by pinfall. After the match, Shane goes Coast to Coast on Sheamus with the cake in his face.
