In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claims to shed some light on the meaning behind Bray Wyatt's Firefly Funhouse vignettes airing on RAW and SmackDown Live.
Apparently, a PTSD therapist has reached out to him to confirm that many of the references being used actually stem from PTSD therapy and "special place" is actually a standard coping skill used for those who have suffered some sort of trauma. Wyatt putting his hand over his hear is a nod to butterfly hugs which is used by PTSD therapists for bilateral stimulation.
This therapist adds that they believe Wyatt is being portrayed as someone who is reformed but still haunted by a tragic past.
Say what you will about WWE but there's clearly a lot of thought being put into them and creating a new persona for the Eater of Worlds. What we don't know is how this will impact his in-ring career and whether it's a gimmick that will work outside of promos like this.
