SPOILERS: A New Number #1 Contender For Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship Emerges
WWE's Extreme Rules PPV just finished up, and despite an overall lackluster event, the fatal five-way match brought the house down. Find out which Superstar was crowned new #1 contender after the jump...
For many fans it's a dream match they never thought they'd see, but at the unfortunately named PPV Great Balls of Fire, Brock Lesnar will defend his Universal Championship against Samoa Joe.
The Destroyer came out on top after locking his coquina clutch on Finn Balor at the conclusion of a terrific match that was by far the highlight of an overall disappointing Extreme Rules PPV. Having said that, there were a couple of title changes.
The Miz used the silly DQ stipulation to his advantage and ultimately wound up pinning Dean Ambrose after hitting his Skull Crushing Finale, and Sheamus and Cesaro managed to take the Tag Titles from The Hardy Boyz after escaping from the cage in tandem, even though Jeff Hardy had already climbed out but then re-entered and that meant he had to escape again... or something.
Anyway, it was a decent match, which is more than can be said for the wretched Kendo Stick on a Pole bout, which saw Bayley treated like a complete jobber yet again. Seriously, unless this feud culminates with her turning into the hardcore female equivalent of The Sandman and laying waste to the entire division while drunk, what has been the point?
Does Joe have any hope of taking the Universal Championship from The Beast? It seems very unlikely, but nobody really knows what's going on behind-the-scenes in that company, as evidenced by Joe's win tonight.
