Despite backlash from fans, the press, and even United States senators, WWE confirmed this week that Crown Jewel will take place in Saudi Arabia as planned. That's despite the fact that the Saudi government ordered the murder of a journalist who had been critical of the Crown Prince and it's quickly become apparent that WWE doesn't want to lose out on the millions of dollars from their deal.
Stephanie McMahon pretty much said as much during a recent interview but to her credit, she also condemned what happened in the country before promising to deliver Crown Jewel "for the fans."
"Moving forward with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia was an incredibly tough decision, given that heinous act," she explained. "But, at the end of the day, it is a business decision and, like a lot of other American companies, we decided that we’re going to move forward with the event and deliver Crown Jewel for all of our fans in Saudi Arabia and around the world."
As a result of this, it's clearly going to take a lot for WWE to sever ties with the Saudis and it should be interesting seeing how long it takes this entire messy situation to blow over. Stay tuned for more.
