Vince McMahon announced his intention to return to the company's board of directors ahead of a potential sale last week, and the controversial mogul's imminent comeback has already had major ramifications for the promotion.

Vince's daughter. Stephanie McMahon, has now announced that she'll be stepping down as co-CEO of WWE, leaving Nick Khan as the sole CEO of the company.

“With Nick’s leadership and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque as chief content officer, I am confident WWE is in the perfect place to continue to provide unparalleled creative content and drive maximum value for shareholders,” she wrote.

“I look forward to cheering on WWE from the other side of the business, where I started when I was a little kid, as a pure fan. I will always remain dedicated to WWE,” she added. “I truly love our company, our employees, our superstars, and our fans. And I am grateful to all of our partners.”

You can check out Stephanie's statement in full below.

Though nothing has been made official just yet, several well-placed sources are reporting that WWE has been sold to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. If true, the company is expected to go back to being private, which would allow Vince to go back to being head of creative.

Folks, it looks like there might be dark days ahead for WWE fans.

It was good while it lasted, a good half year of Stephanie and HHH showing us how good the show could be. If SA is in charge, I expect the female roster to be put in back seat again. Sami Zayn is for sure fired. lol

@1stDalek - This is......not good news. Not at all.

I half expect a mass exodus of fans.

@CorndogThief - It's a worst possible outcome of a sale. I expect them to lose some talent over these too, not just fans. Could even affect them hiring newer talent too
