Yesterday, news broke that WWE is looking to bring WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin back for one more match. The Texas Rattlesnake hasn't wrestled since retiring after a 2003 match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania, but the company is trying to convince him to step back into the ring for a bout in Dallas, Texas, this April.
That will reportedly be with former Universal Champion Kevin Owens. He's been attacking Texas in recent promos while talking about not having a match at this year's Show of Shows, clearly setting the stage for Austin to return and put KO - who is currently using the Stunner as his finisher - in his place.
It's believed that Austin had a ring built in his home last year, so he's had plenty of time to prepare.
This isn't the only big surprise WWE has planned for its two-night WrestleMania - which has been struggling to shift tickets - as Dave Meltzer shared the following on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. "There’s apparently one more surprise besides Austin still to come and it’s supposed to be Austin-level," he explains (via WrestlingNews.co).
"That’s a pretty small list of people that can be Austin-level. The Rock, I think has got stuff going on so I don’t think it’s gonna be him so who else do we have? Hogan, Flair, and Undertaker, right? Is there anybody else still alive that would qualify at that level?"
WWE is pulling out all the stops for WrestleMania, and we're intrigued to see how the card continues to take shape. Right now, the only confirmed matches are Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar and SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey.
Stay tuned for updates.
