Earlier this year, it was reported that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was being lined up to make his WWE return at Survivor Series to mark the 25th anniversary since his in-ring debut for the company.
At the time, it was mentioned that the PPV could be used to set the stage for The Rock to face Universal Champion Roman Reigns at next year's WrestleMania, though that bout appears to have been sidelined. Now, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Johnson will be too busy to attend Survivor Series next month.
That's because he'll be in Australia filming episodes for the second season of NBC's Young Rock.
Quarantine regulations would make it impossible for the Brahma Bull to return to the U.S. for Survivor Series, and he's expected to remain in the country until at least January. He could appear in a pre-taped segment, of course, but we're not banking on that being the case right now.
Meltzer also noted that, for the time being, plans for Reigns vs. The Rock are tentative at best and if the match is going to happen, it probably won't be until WrestleMania in Los Angeles in 2023.
