Despite making sporadic appearances in NXT, WWE has never signed Tessa Blanchard to a contract and after the third generation Superstar delivered some great matches in last year's Mae Young Classic, fans couldn't get their heads around why she remains unsigned. Since then, she's moved on and is currently making an impact as part of Impact Wrestling's still quite impressive Knockouts division.
Now, she's revealed that not getting a WWE contract after her initial tryout a few years ago hit her really hard, especially as she was expecting to receive an offer from the company at the time.
"After my WWE tryout in 2014, I was like ‘alright, I’m getting signed. I’m going to be there. I’m ready, let’s do this. It’s happening. Everything is happening right now.' When it didn’t happen I was heartbroken. I think it’s because God had a plan for me… If I would have gone and they would have signed me right away, I don’t think I would have had the life experiences or the experiences in wrestling."
On the plus side, not being signed to a developmental contract as part of NXT has given Blanchard the opportunity to make a name for herself on the independent scene and gain valuable experience she might have otherwise missed out on. With any luck, WWE will see sense soon and that will result in her finally landing a job with them. For now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with her.
