Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff may be the Executive Directors of
RAW and
Friday Night SmackDown but they won't be the ones drafting Superstars to their respective brands this coming Friday and Monday. Instead, Dave Meltzer has now revealed that the idea is that FOX and USA Network executives will be making those choices.
"The whole draft, now I mean, of course, this could change, but the whole draft is already done," he claims. "So it’s like they actually got their battle plan. I have no idea what it is and no one’s going to until the day of and they’re not going to tell the talent."
"So they’re gonna have reps from — it’s gonna be people who will be picking like a football draft. It’s not gonna be done like it’s done before. It’s gonna be a rep or reps from USA and a rep or reps from Fox that will be doing the picking as opposed to authority figures from WWE. They don’t want authority figures right now so that’s how it’s gonna be."
Honestly, that's a somewhat boring answer but with no more general managers or commissioners, it's an option that definitely makes sense for the company. It also gives this Draft a somewhat more sports-like feel but could be a turn off for many fans who really don't care what TV executives want!
We'll just have to wait and see how things play out later this week.
