The finish to the main event of this week's RAW was undeniably awkward, but that's thanks to a bizarre rule Vince McMahon has introduced. That specifies that if an illegal man strikes the legal man in the ring, then they're disqualified. However, that doesn't count if a wrestler jumps in to break up a pinfall.
Nonsensical, right?
Well, during the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE botched this rule during RAW's main event on Monday. "I was actually told that they screwed up their own rule because it’s a breakup of a finish so a submission is also a thing," he explains.
"So, if you break up a pin or submission you’re allowed to do it, but if you just hit the legal man for no reason then it is a disqualification which makes absolutely no sense, but that’s the story."
It must be hellish being a referee in WWE, and this isn't the first botch we've seen on RAW in recent weeks. An audible had to be called because Ivar suffered an injury, while fans remain confused about the weird ending to the Mickie James vs. Asuka match.
Thus far, there's no word on how Vince McMahon feels bout his makeshift rule being botched...
