The Miz Believes That The "WWE Championship Should Be In The Main Event Of Every Single PPV"
During a new interview, former Intercontinental Champion The Miz expressed his frustration with how the WWE title and its holder are being utilised on pay-per-views. Might Backlash be an example, perhaps?
It used to be a general rule that the WWE Championship match would always main event a show (though there have been exceptions, of course), but that's becoming less and less the norm.
Most recently, the crowd was befuddled when Roman Reigns took on Samoa Joe in the main event of Backlash after barely any build, and expressed their displeasure by walking out halfway through the match.
Though there were some extenuating circumstances (the finish of AJ Vs. Nakamura was a double count-out), unless it's something like John Cena vs. The Rock, most old school fans - and even some WWE employees, it seems - would agree that the title match should be the last bout on the card.
For an example, look no further than this excerpt from Si.com's interview with The Miz:
My goal is to make the WWE championship as relevant and prestigious as it should be. Do I think AJ Styles is doing a terrific job as WWE champion? Absolutely. But that WWE championship should be in the main event of every single WWE pay per view.
It upsets me when I see that it is not. My goal is to not only win the Money in the Bank contract, cash it in and become WWE champion. I want to put that title back where it belongs: the main event.”
The Miz was probably in-character here to some extent, but his words definitely reflect the frustrations of many fans.
Will WWE (ie, Vince) take note? Well, he certainly noticed the walk-outs!.
