The New Day enjoyed an incredible, historic run as one of the top factions in WWE, but their partnership finally came to an end on SmackDown.

Big E started the night by defeating Sheamus in a gruelling Falls Count Anywhere Match, and he was joined by the returning Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to celebrate his victory. Both Superstars have been on the shelf with injuries for the past few months, and wasted no time in challenging Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura for the blue brand Tag Team Championships.

That match happened later in the night, and The New Day were victorious when Woods pinned Nakamura after landing his springboard elbow drop. E joined them in the ring, but the celebration was short-lived when Stephanie McMahon announced that the new tag champs would be heading to Raw in the Draft, and E would be staying put on SmackDown.

Rumors have been swirling that The New Day would part ways for a long time, and it had to happen at some point. At least they didn't turn anyone heel, which leaves the door open to a reunion in the short term. For now, Big E can continue what's been a very impressive singles run so far.
