It's been confirmed today that the finals of the WWE United States Championship tournament will no longer take place on January 28th at the Royal Rumble PPV. Instead, a new title holder will be crowned on the January 23rd edition of SmackDown Live instead. That means both semi-final matches - Xavier Woods vs. Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley will happen tonight!
So, why the change? Well, rumour has it that the champion crowned on the 23rd will end up facing former champion Dolph Ziggler at the PPV. Because the Showoff never officially announced that he was relinquishing the title, the storyline will be that Daniel Bryan mistakenly took his actions the wrong way and that will presumably play into the ongoing storyline with him and Shane McMahon.
Whatever happens, it's going to be very interesting seeing who becomes champion. Roode or Mahal seem like the safe choices but it would be a lot of fun seeing Woods finally get the chance to have a singles run as United States Champion. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the usual place.
