Was Sasha Banks originally set to face Bayley at WrestleMania 36?

For months, rumors had swirled that the best friends were set to do battle one-on-one at the grandest stage of them all; however, that speculation came to rest when Paige announced that Bayley would defend her championship in a six-pack challenge against Sasha Banks, Tamina, Naomi, Dana Brooke, and Lacey Evans.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the original plan was indeed to pit the two best friends against one another at WrestleMania 36; however, the reason the match was scrapped is due to officials not believing that four weeks was enough time to build up a rivalry between Banks and Bayley.

The wrestling journalist never states whether officials intend to save the match for a later date; however, this wouldn’t be the first time that a match between the two was axed on the main roster. Their infamous rivalry back in 2018 was supposed to lead to a match at WrestleMania 34; however, Bayley and Sasha were put into the Women’s Battle Royal instead.
