The Rock's Hollywood Success Continues As JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE Gets A Sequel

More good news for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson today but bad news for those of you hoping to see him back in the squared circle in the near future. Why?

The first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was overshadowed by people complaining about Karen Gillan's shorts but no one really expected much from the reboot regardless. However, the movie massively overperformed at the box office with a haul of over $850 million worldwide and so it probably won't surprise you to learn that a sequel is now officially in the works at Sony Pictures.

According to Variety, the plan is for Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan to all reprise their roles, while Jake Kasdan is going to be back in the director's chair for the follow-up.

Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are in talks to pen the screenplay and they worked on the first movie (alongside Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers) but most notably wrote the upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy. A production start date hasn't been revealed and Jumanji 2 doesn't currently have a release date either. As always, though, be sure to stay tuned for additional updates on the sequel.
