We've been hearing quite a lot from The Undertaker since his Last Ride docu-series series premiered on The WWE Network, and in this latest interview, The Deadman provided some more insight into his infamous WrestleMania XXX match with Brock Lesnar.
'Taker has already spoken about his pre-match discussion with Vince McMahon and wanting to be certain that the chairman was dead set on The Beast being the one to end The Streak, but while chatting CBS Sports, The Phenom also reveals that he had reservations because he felt someone else could have benefited more from the win.
“Obviously, in Vince’s mindset, if it’s not Brock, then who? My biggest concern was I just wanted to make sure that [McMahon] was sure and that’s what he wanted to do. I didn’t feel like Brock needed it. Brock was already a huge star, and it wasn’t going to help him one way or another. My only concern was there might have been someone down the line that could have benefited from it more and that probably would’ve been Roman later on.
That’s with hindsight being 20/20. But if I was going to get beat by someone, Brock was a guy who had the credentials, I think, to do it and people would be like, ‘Um, OK, s–t, that’s Brock Lesnar.’ That was my biggest deal. I just wanted to make sure that’s really what [McMahon] had wanted to do.”
Many fans held and still hold that same viewpoint: Brock beating The Undertaker at 'Mania is believable, but what did it really do for a talent who's already been established as such a major draw? We'd argue that even Reigns was too big to fully benefit from that rub.
What do you guys think? Were you okay with Lesnar ending The Streak? Let us know in the usual place.
