Long before the formation of All Elite Wrestling, The Young Bucks were known as the hottest tag team on the planet and things are currently looking very good for them, especially given their executive roles in the company. However, their careers could have headed down a very different route alongside Kenny Omega.
Before they signed with AEW, rumours were swirling that all three men would sign with WWE and they've now revealed just how close they came to signing with Vince McMahon's company.
"We talked to them endlessly," Matt reveals. "At one point, I remember me, Nick and Kenny were in a room because all of our deals were up at the same time. We got off the phone one day and we looked at each other and we said ‘I think we’re all going to WWE.’ It was that close."
"Tony came to us at the right time and he made the right offer," he continued. "I’m not talking financially, I’m talking ‘hey, you guys can run this thing’ and ‘I want you guys to hire your people.’ It’s like someone saying ‘I want you to make a movie and you can hire all the cameramen. You can hire all the writers, all your friends to be with you.’ He gave us the keys to this thing."
Nick went on to reveal that one of the main reasons they said no to WWE was because of the amount of dates they wanted them to do and while they were offered a limited schedule, he says that "We have young families. Even with the limited schedule, it was like ‘God, I can’t imagine being home [just] for 2 days for my kids."
There's clearly no bad blood there but WWE has to be kicking themselves for not signing The Young Bucks up much sooner!
