2023 has been an incredible year for WWE and much of the credit for that goes to Triple H. With Vince McMahon no longer calling the shots, The Game has been able to make RAW, SmackDown, and even NXT essential viewing again, delivering heaps of fantastic matches and memorable in-ring promos.
Now, we have word on which of those drew the biggest ratings over the past 365-odd days.
For RAW, it was the Trial of Sami Zayn; the Canadian was red-hot at the time and found himself having to defend his recent actions against a series of accusations laid at his feet by Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman.
Jey Uso shocked fans by standing up for Sami, leading to the unlikely member of The Bloodline being found not guilty by The Tribal Chief.
Reigns was also a huge draw on SmackDown, with a segment with Jey drawing the biggest numbers for the blue brand. Taken to Tribal Court, the Head of the Table appeared to be genuinely sorry for his recent actions...only to then show his true colours by hitting Jey with a low blow.
Jimmy ended up being stretchered out of the arena following a brutal attack and the stage was set for the cousins to clash down the line.
As for NXT, a match ended up being the highest-rated segment when Becky Lynch squared off with Tiffany Stratton for the NXT Women's title. That just goes to show women's wrestling is a draw and what a difference bringing a main roster Superstar into the developmental brand can make.
Some of you will wonder why CM Punk hasn't been mentioned here but it's worth noting that WWE decided to put his RAW return in the final segment of the show (and that third hour always haemorrhages viewers). His actual WWE return at Survivor Series, though, has become the most social clip in the company's history and has drawn even bigger numbers than The Rock's return on SmackDown!
2024 is shaping up to be an exciting one for WWE. Rumours continue to swirl about the company's WrestleMania plans and, right now, it looks like we can expect the Showcase of the Immortals to be headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II and Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk.
