On tonight's episode of NXT, Lexis King cut an in-ring promo about how he was never going to completely change his character like had been the storyline for the past several months. He made fun of Ryan Leaf and others for trying to impart some wisdom on him and spoke about how he never knew his father Brian Pillman, but he did know that he was a loose cannon who would do anything to win, and that seems to be something that he's inherited.
King put over himself as a dig at his father for not amounting to all the potential he had, but equated himself to being on the path to becoming the greatest pro wrestler in history, touting his NXT Heritage Cup victory as part of the proof of that.
King also decided to announce that he's going to change the rules for how the Heritage Cup Championship is defended going forward. The whole concept of the British Rounds rules is going to be discontinued. Instead of a points system and having a corner man and everything that made the Heritage Cup what it is, this will now just be contested under one pinfall with a winner takes all approach. Effectively, this means this is just the same as every other championship in WWE going forward (for an undeterminable amount of time; possibly forever) with the only difference being that the title is represented with the trophy instead of a belt.
As he was talking about this, he was interrupted by the surprise return of Fandango—who currently wrestles in TNA Wrestling under the name JDC. Fandango's last match in WWE was alongside Tyler Breeze in the tag team Breezango (also sometimes referred to as The Fashion Police) in a victorious effort over Imperium (Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser, then known by their real names Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel).
JDC spoke about how he is there to represent The System and that he'd love to get his mouth around the Heritage Cup, and announced that he has an opportunity to do just that next week as he's going to face off against Lexis King.
Would you be down for Fandango winning this title and making a comeback in WWE, or is this just another win set up for Lexis King and nothing more? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
