Fightful is reporting that Tom Phillips has been released by WWE.
The company has yet to confirm the news, but a statement is likely to be released imminently. Phillips is the latest WWE employee to be let go after what feels like an ever-growing list of wrestlers, referees, and staff members who have recently been wished all the best with their future endeavours.
Phillips started working for WWE in 2012 as a backstage interview. Later, he'd transition into a member of the commentary team on RAW, SmackDown, NXT, NXT UK, Main Event and Superstars.
It felt like Phillips was being lined up as the next Michael Cole, and he had great chemistry alongside Corey Graves. Most recently, he was made the lead play-by-play announcer for RAW, but was replaced by Adnan Virk, someone so bad at the job that he trended on social media on a weekly basis until being released earlier this week.
It remains to be seen where Phillips goes next, but we certainly hope he lands on his feet. He's a real talent, and we can't help but wonder whether WWE will regret not keeping him around.
Keep checking back here as we're bound to have more to report on this story soon!
