It's pretty typical for WWE to phone it in at this time of year, particularly with strong competition from Monday Night Football and a dip in viewership over the holiday season. However, once January rolls around, the Royal Rumble takes place and we're then officially on the Road to WrestleMania!
Now, WrestlingNews.co has shared some insights into the planned match card, and it's shaping up to be yet another great show with Triple H calling the shots in place of ousted WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Here's how things currently stand:
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens
WWE SmackDown Women's Championship
Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Raquel Rodriguez
Men's Royal Rumble Match
Women's Royal Rumble Match
Pitch Black Match
Hell in a Cell Match
Edge vs. "Demon" Finn Balor
Edge's return is definitely something to get excited about, and the fact it looks set to be a Hell in a Cell match ties in with recent comments from The Game. He talked about moving on from gimmick-themed PLEs, making matches like Hell in a Cell feel far more important than us getting two on the same card each year during an event called, you guessed it, Hell in a Cell!
As for the Pitch Black match, we're hearing it will more than likely involve Bray Wyatt. Will he face LA Knight or Uncle Howdy? That remains to be seen, but WWE is definitely taking a slow-burn approach to his story.
It's usually around this time of year we start hearing about WrestleMania plans, but with Vince McMahon no longer in charge, that appears to have changed. There have been rumblings about Roman Reigns competing on both nights, with Cody Rhodes and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson among his most likely opponents as things currently stand.
As always, you'll want to keep checking back here for Royal Rumble updates as we have them!
