Triple H Explains Cody Rhodes' WRESTLEMANIA Loss: "The Story Never Finishes"

Triple H has weighed in on last night's shocking WrestleMania Night 2 main event, offering an explanation as to why Cody Rhodes didn't get to "finish the story" by defeating Roman Reigns...

In what has to go down as one of, if not the most shocking WrestleMania main even outcomes in the history of the PLE, Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship last night.

The American Nightmare picking up the win and "finishing his story" was a foregone conclusion for many fans, but thanks to some outside inference, the Tribal Chief was able to avoid a third Cross-Rhodes and hit a Spear for the pin-fall victory.

During the aftershow press conference, Triple H adressed Cody's loss, and it certainly sounds like Reigns retaining the titles was the plan all along.

"Maybe for a lot of people, a shocking outcome. What I will say about that is, it's always interesting to me when people say, 'how can that happen?' or 'how can they do that in that moment?' It's almost perfectly spelling out in this story. 'I need to finish the story.' In the WWE, the story never finishes. Tomorrow night on Raw, the story continues. The story takes another chapter. We just got to the end of the chapter. The story continues and that's where this gets interesting to me. That is what is the most amazing thing about our business, the story never ends."

So, will Rhodes get another shot at the title at some point? Even if he does, last night really felt like his moment. Maybe the powers that be are simply too used to having a massive, proven draw like Reigns as the company's top guy.

But someone has to beat him... right?

I really doubt they will be able to recreate the moment and excitement Cody had behind him yesterday. It felt like *his* moment at the Grandest Stage of them All (tm) and recreating it seems like a tall order. But with Reigns historic long reign not likely to end outside of WrestleMania they have about a year to try to re-earn and maybe re-create that moment, but you only get one shot to grab your baby and try to have them wave at the crowd, they just have to figure out how Royal Rumble would work in that scenario, Cody winning back-to-back is a sure fire way to have the crowd against him.

@1stDalek - I think many feel fatigued with Roman as Champion for so long, he is doing the classic heel thing where the majority of his wins are never clean now, but it means that there isn't really a true world title scene atm.
The only thing it has done a bit has forced some focus onto the other titles (intercontinental and US), which has helped to invigorate them rather than feeling like they were an afterthought.
I was really hoping that Cody would take the title to allow for a better overall title scene moving forward, leaving some of the up and coming talent to start getting some chances to showcase what they can do challenging for those titles, sometimes I do miss the European title as it gave the lower card something to fight for, look at how many of the greats from the attitude era had an initial run with the Euro title.

At this point and with no new arrivals on Raw that I saw? I genuinely do not know who they could bring in the beat Roman currently...

@DevilsDreams - Yeah, it just gets boring after all this time.
At this point they'll have to dig into the mid-card for challengers, like they did with Cesaro a while back. Maybe build Nakamura back up into something respectable to he can lose to Reigns due to interference.

@1stDalek - I know the talk has been for the Rock to come back to face Reigns, but he clearly doesn't need a title run... I saw someone else say that Seth Rollins could take the title, but they've done that...
other than the bloodline somehow falling apart, just not sure who could come across as viable to take the title...

If Cody was to win it as backlash or even MITB, it just feels like it would cheapen his win a little... maybe MITB will provide a savior?
