WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus was part of many controversial WWE storylines during the Attitude Era, no great surprise given the way women in the company were booked during that period.
Talking on WWE's The Bump (via Wrestling Inc), Stratus was asked about being part of the WrestleMania X-7 match which saw Vince McMahon square off with his son, Shane. Her involvement in the match included pushing a "comatose" Linda to the ring, slapping Vince, and fighting Stephanie.
"As we laid it out, everything meant something," Stratus said of the match. "Every little motion, from Linda standing up to my slap to Stephanie. It was super fun to watch it back As a character that was a turning point for me. That was my whole ‘I’m not going to take this anymore. I’m going to stand up; I’m going to believe in myself. I don’t need you, I don’t need a man.’"
Of course, the match is also remembered for the build which saw Vince force Trish to strip down to her underwear and bark like a dog. It made for uncomfortable viewing then and is arguably even worse now. When Peacock does another round of edits on the WWE Network, that's likely to be cut.
"As everyone knows it was a long journey of questionable moments before that between Vince and I," the WWE Hall of Famer acknowledged. "As a character, I knew this was the end point and it was culminating in this point. Everything we did, including that event, was worth it. It was completely worth it for the character and the evolution of the character. And it meant that much more for us to get there to that point. It was an awesome moment for me as a character."
That's a fair way of looking at things, and it's clear Trish has no regrets about that part of her career.
