We're almost on the Road to WrestleMania, and while there have been some bumps along the way as we near this year's Royal Rumble match (like Roman Reigns testing positive for COVID-19), it appears WWE is forging ahead with its original creative plans. That's not a bad thing, of course, but it could lead to some sudden changes in direction over the coming weeks.
In today's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that the current plan is for Charlotte Flair to defend the SmackDown Women's Championship against Sasha Banks. On the RAW side, it looks like we're getting Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for that brand's Women's Championship (meaning fans hoping Liv Morgan might nab the title at the Show of Shows will be disappointed).
The Boss is currently sidelined with an injury, so we don't know if she'll make it into the Royal Rumble match. However, Flair is entering in an effort to win and choose her own opponent at the PPV.
Belair is expected to compete in the Rumble, though, as Lynch will defend against Doudrop at the show.
These are matches we've seen before (quite a few times actually), but we're hoping WWE will deliver some big surprises along the way in order to keep things feeling fresh. Both are bouts that feel worthy of WrestleMania, but some fans are bound to be disappointed that it's more of the same too.
As always, keep checking back here for updates.
