During a recent interview with ESPN's Ariel Helwani to promote his upcoming Bellator 222 fight with former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida, Chael Sonnen reflected on a very bizarre exchange with WWE back in 2012.
Apparently, the company offered him $5 million to appear on RAW with the UFC title and $1 million to no-show his rematch against Anderson Silva, a highly anticipated bout which did big business for the MMA company at the time. So, why would WWE put so much money on the table?
Well, apparently it was "to stick it up Dana White's ass" which is a very Vince McMahon thing to say.
It's been widely reported that Vince hates UFC and that he's wanted to show up White on a number of occasions (with no real luck). The two men have, of course, worked together at times (mostly regarding Brock Lesnar's contract status) so perhaps the WWE Chairman thought this would be a good - but very expensive - rib.
None of this happened but it certainly would have been very interesting had it become a reality.
