Recently, Seth Rollins has taken aim at WWE's critics, and now AJ Styles is the latest to hit back at those who aren't happy with the current product.
"I totally understand where he's coming from," the United States Champion said when asked about Rollins' remarks. "We're out there doing trying our best to entertain everyone to the best of our ability. It's not easy to do that and then you want to be arm-chair quarterbacks. Hindsight sucks. Everybody wants to do that. You can't do that."
Styles went on to go down the tired route of saying that if WWE's critics knew that much, they would be in the wrestling businesses themselves. He also seemingly completely missed the point of what makes a critic a critic: they like some things and don't like others.
"If they were so good at what they've done, and I know you've heard this before, if these guys who want to criticize wrestling were so good at what they do, they'd have a job in the wrestling business. But they don't. They rely on what someone else has said and whether or not they agree with that. They pick and choose what they like. You can't do that. Either you enjoy it or you don't. Regardless, you're making a show about it weekly, so something must be going right. Somebody is doing something right. We want to entertain. We want to do our best, so it's aggravating when not only do we know some things don't go the way that we like, then we have to hear it from somebody else."
It is easy enough to see where Styles is coming from in some respects, but the fact that he doesn't appear to want to hear any negative opinions about WWE doesn't really make a lot of sense. After all, while it can't be easy for WWE Superstars to be faced with so much negativity, it might not hurt to stop and think that there could be a good reason for that.
What do you guys think? Are the critics in the right or does Styles make a good point?
