During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the lack of logic in the segment which saw Seth Rollins brutalise Dominik Mysterio ahead of their SummerSlam match later this month.
They pointed out that no one came out to help Mysterio, despite there being several wrestlers backstage who are friends with the Mysterio family and a number of developmental wrestling being at ringside who could have easily interjected. You would think Kevin Owens might consider helping out, but there's a good reason why he was M.I.A.
Meltzer explains that Owens was going to continue feuding with Rollins, but plans changed when Mysterio signed a new contract and KO was taken out of the storyline by Vince McMahon.
"Kevin Owens was there who is another, you know," Meltzer started. "He’s fallen out of his program. He was supposed to be in a program with Seth until they just dropped it when Rey agreed to stay." Owens was part of RAW this week, but lost to Randy Orton to further The Viper's storyline with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
As of right now, Owens doesn't has a match at SummerSlam, and it seems unlikely he'll be added to the show this late in the game.
