Last year's WrestleMania welcomed fans back, but even taking place over two nights, it was still a little more low-key than normal. Prior to that, the Show of Shows took place in the empty WWE Performance Center, so it's no wonder WWE is looking to pull out all the stops both this April and in 2023.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shared an update on WrestleMania 39 (which takes place next year in California's SoFi Stadium). WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is said to have two big matches planned, and both are long overdue in the minds of many wrestling fans.
The first is Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey. The Baddest Woman on the Planet will take on SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair this year, so WWE clearly wants to make us wait for the match we really want. The second is current Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. The Rock. That's been rumoured for a long time and would surely be the latter's retirement match.
It all depends on Dwayne Johnson's schedule, but if he wants to make it happen, then it likely will.
As for Rousey, Meltzer notes that she's set to be a regular on SmackDown for the foreseeable future but will eventually butt heads with Lynch as what Vince is eyeing up as the "biggest WrestleMania ever."
