It's been over two months since we've seen Shayna Baszler on WWE TV (her last match was on the May 12th episode of RAW when she defeated Natalya), but it doesn't appear as if her absence has anything to do with an injury or WWE Creative not having any ideas for the former NXT Women's Champion.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, original plans for Baszler called for her to get a series of big wins, but Vince McMahon pulled the plug on those. That why she didn't end up winning the Royal Rumble, and why Becky Lynch retained the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania.
She was then scheduled to win the Money in the Bank briefcase, but McMahon decided Asuka should win it (despite Paul Heyman having an idea to make Baszler a monster heel).
Apparently, a big part of why McMahon soured on Baszler and pulled her from RAW is because he never grasped the concept of her using an MMA style of fighting in the ring. In fairness, that seemed to be a sentiment many fans agreed with as her matches in front of a live crowd received a muted response, and fans at home have also had mixed things to say.
Now, Baszler's WWE future remains unclear, but we'll keep you guys updated.
