Lately, WWE 205 Live has been taped ahead of time before SmackDown Live on Tuesday nights before airing on Wednesdays at 7pm. This week followed that same structure, but with a special caveat, as there was a second recording of SmackDown in order to air next Tuesday's episode without everyone working on Christmas, and nothing was recorded for 205 Live for next week.
Tonight's episode of 205 Live clarified what the game plan is for what will air next Wednesday, which will be largely a "Best of 205 Live" recap in some fashion, featuring the best matches of the year. Essentially, it's a clip show that will be entirely old footage, possibly with a host interspersed to explain the clips that were chosen.
There will be one new development, though, in that Drake Maverick is set to name the new No. 1 contender to the Cruiserweight Championship. This came about from Buddy Murphy saying that despite beating Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander, people still don't recognize him as the best cruiserweight in the world and he wants a challenge to prove himself.
Who will be the next in line for a title opportunity and when will they get to fight Murphy for the championship? Which matches will be chosen as the best of the year? Those are unknowns, but we'll find out next week!
