A couple of days ago, a lot of eyebrows were raised when WWE quietly cancelled RAW XXX's planned Bloodline Acknowledgement Ceremony with Roman Reigns. Afa, Sika, Samu, Rikishi, and others were all expected to be part of that, with the hope being The Rock might appear and refuse to acknowledge the Tribal Chief.
With that, the stage would be set for them to clash at this year's WrestleMania in Hollywood. However, the segment has now been replaced with a "Tribal Court" that reportedly revolves around Sami Zayn's ongoing issues with The Bloodline.
It's unclear what prompted the change, but we're hearing that Dwayne Johnson's return is looking increasingly unlikely.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had been hoping to get an answer from The Rock by mid-January. However, The Great One is both incredibly busy and unsure whether he has enough time to get into the necessary shape he feels he needs to be in for a match like this.
Meltzer notes that it's possible The Rock's return is being kept a very closely guarded secret, and it's said WWE was fully prepared for this to happen.
With that in mind, the company likely has another plan for the Show of Shows, with those probably revolving around the returning Cody Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble and challenging the Big Dog at WrestleMania. However, with rumours swirling that Reigns will be forced to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion across two nights - as WWE looks to split the belts - there's a chance he'll be pulling double duty at the event.
If so, we can't help but think Zayn would be a great choice to battle Reigns, even if the prevailing theory online is that he and Kevin Owens will take aim at The Usos' tag team titles.
