Shortly after it was revealed that WWE has decided to move WrestleMania from Tampa to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, it's been revealed that WrestleCon has also been called off. This isn't exactly a huge surprise, especially as a mass gathering like this one just isn't possible right now thanks to the Coronavirus.
For those of you unfamiliar with the event, it's essentially a convention where wrestling fans can meet WWE Legends, All Elite Wrestling stars, and wrestlers from countless other well-known and independent promotions. Later, WrestleCon revealed that the Marriott International (the hotel hosting the event) has demanded $114,202 for "liquidated damages," something which has seen AEW star Chris Jericho take aim at them.
"Hey @wrestlecon, no court in the world would force u to pay this bill AND if we go into city wide lockdowns, they won’t have a leg to stand on anyway," he Tweeted. "In the meantime shame on u @Marriott for taking this stance in such an uncertain time! I have tons of fans who feel the same way."
With any luck, Marriott will see sense as a payout like that could really hurt WrestleCon. For now, though, they're planning to bring the show back in Los Angeles next year when the next WrestleMania is set to take place.
