After the disastrous WWE 2K20, the franchise has taken a couple of years off. The hope now is that WWE 2K22 will make up for past mistakes, delivering the best instalment to date. There's certainly a lot to look forward to, with the General Manager mode (now known as "MyGM Mode") making a long-overdue return after a decade-long absence.

Typically, WWE makes a big deal out of revealing the game's cover star, but a first look has leaked online and...it's not who we expected! As you can see below, former WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio will take centre stage, a surprise considering the fact he's booked as a lower mid-carder.

He is a WWE Legend, of course, and incredibly popular among fans. That's likely to make the game more marketable, and it's hard to imagine who else could be used...let's just hope Rey isn't released in the coming weeks, eh? Another leak has claimed 3-day early access for WWE 2K22 will begin on March 8, while there's going to be nWo and Undertaker-themed DLC.

While a brief trailer has been released for the game, we're expecting to start seeing a lot more - including gameplay footage - over the coming weeks and months.

Wasn't he already on a WWE 2K cover a couple years ago?
