WWE 2K21 was an unmitigated disaster, with a myriad of issues which essentially meant it was broken when it arrived in stores (it very nearly had as many glitches as Cyberpunk 2077).

The game proved to be a PR nightmare for WWE, so the company has gone back to the drawing board with 2K and Visual Concepts. Apparently, this instalment "Hits Different," and the first gameplay footage...well, it looks a lot like every other instalment we've seen in recent years.

In that, we see Rey Mysterio hitting the 619 on Cesaro, though it's unclear whether this means he'll be the cover star of this year's game. Hopefully, it marks a step forward for the series.

Here's the full press release alongside that first look trailer:

During the WrestleMania 37 broadcast, 2K and Visual Concepts revealed the very first teaser video for WWE® 2K22, featuring both live-action and stunning in-game footage of WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio.

In the teaser, Rey Mysterio, a high-flying lucha libre legend and one of the most exciting and decorated Superstars in WWE history, slips on his iconic mask, enters the ring, sets up his opponent, Cesaro, and connects with his electrifying 619 signature move. The video concludes with a note confirming WWE 2K22 will be coming soon and the tagline "It Hits Different."
