Former WWE NXT Tag Team Champion Steve Cutler is officially gone.
Yesterday, WWE confirmed the news that the former Smackdown star had been released from the company. This comes after the quiet departure of Lars Sullivan, who confirmed the news to Fightful Select.
2020 wasn’t a kind year for Cutler as the 33-year-old was pulled off of television back in July following a controversial tweet from fellow Forgotten Sons member Jaxson Ryker. The trio seemed set for a huge push on the blue brand before being taken off of TV.
Cutler didn’t make his return until December by helping King Corbin beat Murphy, with the help of Wesley Blake. According to Fightful, there was heat on the former NXT Tag Team Champion as Cutler tested positive for COVID early in January, which many speculate the reasoning behind his release.
It’s been reported that Cutler was well-liked backstage so it doesn’t appear that the former WWE star had any personal issues with anyone behind-the-scenes, but we’ll keep you updated on the story as it continues. As for Blake, his future on the blue brand is currently unknown.
