WWE is really leaning into the "World" part of World Wrestling Entertainment, with last night's Backlash taking place in Lyon, France. The crowd was on fire and kicked off with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton vs. The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.
A brawl broke out, leading to the match becoming a Street Fight. The biggest shock came when Tanga Loa, Tama's brother, made his surprise debut and cost R-KO the match after hitting Owenns with a brainbuster. He proceeded to use the steel steps on both him and The Viper, allowing Sikoa to pick up the win with a Samoan Spike.
The WWE Women's Championship match saw Bayley retain her title after she rolled up Naomi, shortly after the babyfaces teamed up to take out Tiffany Stratton.
Damian Priest also kept his World Heavyweight Championship thanks to continued interference from fellow Judgement Day members, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. However, the faction's split was once again teased when the match ended, with Priest stopping them from attacking downed opponent Jey Uso.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill beat the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships in an impressive showing, and it was then main event time.
Cody Rhodes defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles in a legit match of the year candidate.
The two went back and forth in a highly competitive bout full of memorable moments. However, the American Nightmare ultimately managed to vanish the Phenomenal One with a Super Cody Cutter and Cross Rhodes.
