Preview & Predictions for WWE Backlash 2025:
On tap for today's event, the true selling point is the headliner with John Cena defending the Undisputed WWE Championship for "one last time" against Randy Orton. The Franchise Player and The Viper have had a storied rivalry dating back nearly 20 years ago. In the grand scheme, Orton's always been just a step behind, though, and that's going to be no different here, as Cena will undoubtedly retain his title by hook or by crook. It's just far too early for him to drop it now.
The same can't be said for Lyra Valkyria, who will almost definitely lose the Women's Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch. There's a chance WWE goes with the upset and ends up doing a rematch where The Man wins, but it would be cleaner to just have her capture the title here.
As far as the men's Intercontinental Championship is concerned, Dominik Mysterio should be relatively safe. While Penta is as viable a contender as can be, there are more stories to be told with Mysterio keeping the title than for it to go straight to Penta.
Jacob Fatu is likely to also retain his title as he defends the United States Championship against Damian Priest, LA Knight, and Drew McIntyre. That one is his match to lose and if he does, it will be as a result of Solo Sikoa getting involved and making a mistake.
Lastly, Gunther should absolutely squash Pat McAfee if he's going to retain any of his previous clout that has been dwindling as of late. If WWE's goal is to humble Gunther with losses for some reason, though, following up his submission at WrestleMania with a loss to McAfee would certainly do the trick.
