This probably shouldn't come as a surprise, but WWE has decided to change the main event of next year's WrestleMania. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan at one point was to have Randy Orton take on Edge in an "I Quit" match.

That would be a natural culmination of their rivalry, and there was talk of Orton winning the WWE Championship during his feud with Drew McIntyre and then defending it against the Rated R Superstar at the Show of Shows. Dave Meltzer notes that The Viper winning the title is no longer a lock, but it was definitely under consideration at one point.

Meltzer concluded that the latest he's heard there's no longer a 100% confirmed plan for the main event at WrestleMania (which isn't a surprise given how frequently Vince McMahon changes his mind).

Earlier this week, it was reported that the WWE Chairman didn't decide on the finish to McIntyre vs. Orton at SummerSlam until late in the week, and there was still a chance the latter could have won right until the show began.

Now, the plan is for McIntyre to return shortly after Payback to set up a rematch with Orton at Clash of Champions.
