After Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19, Brock Lesnar was inserted into the main event of Day 1 and became WWE Champion after pinning Big E. The belief now is that WWE will set the stage for a champion vs. champion match at WrestleMania with The Beast taking on the Head of the Table, but what comes before that?
According to Dave Meltzer, the plan is for Lesnar to defend the title against Bobby Lashley. This is considered a dream match among many fans and it was a bout teased during Saturday night's PPV. Lashley was the only one who really managed to overcome Lesnar, and a staredown at the end of the night seemingly hinted at what WWE has planned.
We don't know when the match is scheduled to take place, but Royal Rumble seems highly likely.
In other news, Fightful Select is reporting that the Day 1 main event match - which was originally scheduled to see Big E retain the title - was shortened once Lesnar was added. It went from being 30 minutes to 8, forcing the company to pad out the rest of the show in order to accommodate this booking change.
As for the backstage reaction to the title change, it's said that most felt Big E didn't receive particularly consistent booking during his reign as WWE Champion, so this sudden ending doesn't seem to have caused too many shockwaves. Hopefully, The New Day member will get another run with the championship down the line because he did a great job with mostly bad booking.
