It may have been the same old Brock Lesnar match we see every time The Beast wrestles, but it was still awesome seeing Drew McIntyre dethrone him at WrestleMania. Recently, Sports Illustrated caught up with the new WWE Champion to discuss his big win and reflected on a conversation he had with Lesnar when he was still part of 3MB.
As you may recall, that comedy group was also made up of Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal, and McIntyre was eventually released before returning to NXT and then debuting on RAW with a new persona.
"I remember it well," McIntyre said of their conversation a number of years ago. "Brock was not long back at that point from UFC. He pulled me aside, and he straight-up asked me, ‘Why are you involved in this?’ He was so confused, but he saw something in me and believed in me. It’s pretty crazy, all these years later, I was the guy to take the title from him at WrestleMania."
"Brock is a man’s man," he continued. "He won’t do business with you if he thinks you’re not doing the job you should be doing. Brock is a very private person, he doesn’t like people too much, but he’s all about respect. To have earned his respect means a lot."
It's interesting that Lesnar saw potential in McIntyre all those years ago, and undeniably ironic that they ended up facing off on the Grandest Stage of Them All (something we could have never imagined back when he was part of 3MB).
What did you guys think about this WrestleMania match?
