The latest edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown for January 1, 2021 took place from the WWE ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Here is a recap of the most noteworthy highlights from this episode for those who might have missed it:

Intercontinental Champion Big E defeated King Corbin by disqualification due to interference from Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake (The Knights of the Lone Wolf) and Sami Zayn. This brought about a tag team match after Apollo Crews came out to help Big E even the odds from a post-match attack. Crews then pinned Zayn so he and Big E were victorious over King Corbin, who had left with his knights during the match. Afterward, Big E said he would have an open challenge for his title next week and Apollo immediately said he'd take the challenge.

— The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan) defeated Natalya and Tamina by pinfall.

— Bayley and Carmella defeated Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair by pinfall.

— Daniel Bryan and Otis defeated Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura by pinfall.

— Kevin Owens defeated Jey Uso by pinfall.
