The latest edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown for October 23, 2020 took place from the WWE ThunderDome at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Here is a recap of the most noteworthy highlights from this episode for those who might have missed it:
— Kevin Owens had Daniel Bryan as his guest on The KO Show. He suggested they form a tag team so he can win a tag title for the first time. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode interrupted, followed by The Street Profits, and then Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. This set up an eight-man tag team match that The Street Profits, Bryan and Owens won.
— Law & Otis: The Miz argued that Otis doesn't do the Money in the Bank contract justice. Otis argued that he deserves the briefcase because he won the match. The Miz and John Morrison's lawyer said that Otis had a good argument, so they fired her.
— Backstage, Bryan, Owens and The Street Profits celebrated their win. Sami Zayn approached Bryan to complain about how he was badmouthing him on The KO Show, as Bryan said the Intercontinental Championship should be defended every week, but he doesn't share that vision. Zayn wants Bryan to keep his name out of his mouth.
— Bianca Belair defeated Zelina Vega by pinfall
— Shorty G told Kayla Braxton that he wants to turn the ship around after not being more easily drafted by either brand, which is why he challenged Lars Sullivan to a match. Lars Sullivan defeated Shorty G by pinfall. After his loss, Shorty G told Kayla that he quit. He clarified after the break to Adam Pearce that he quits being "Shorty G" and trying to spread the message about believing in yourself and achieving your goals no matter what. He's going back to being Chad Gable.
— Bayley cut a promo about how she's done with Sasha Banks and won't sign the contract, but The Boss came out, wrapped her up in a steel chair and forced her to sign it.
— Law & Otis: The Miz questioned John Morrison, who said there are lingering scars left by what Otis did to them. Rey Mysterio testified on behalf of Otis, saying he should be able to cash in his contract any time he wants, as he won straight-up. Asuka said something in Japanese, which JBL didn't understand, but Teddy Long got every word of it. Tucker told The Miz that he wanted to beat the crap out of him. JBL restored some order for a short recess. When they returned, JBL was ready to rule in favor of Otis, but The Miz then paid him off. JBL announced that Otis will have to defend the briefcase against The Miz at Hell in a Cell.
— Seth Rollins defeated Murphy by pinfall. Aalyah wanted Dominik and Rey Mysterio to help out Murphy after the match, but they chose not to, so Aalyah went out instead. Dominik and Rey followed suit to make sure she didn't get hurt.
— Jimmy and Jey Uso set up a distraction with the TitanTron to allow Jey to attack Roman Reigns from behind. Afterward, Roman revealed the stipulation of the Hell in a Cell match. If Roman wins, The Usos have to pick between either falling in line and following his orders, or they will be kicked out of the family.
