Charlotte Flair is taking some time off from WWE to recharge her batteries and possibly even get some surgery. Since the news broke that she'll be at home for a while, there have been conflicting reports about when we'll next see her, with it ranging from as soon as SummerSlam to as late as next year's Royal Rumble.
Regardless, Dave Meltzer has revealed on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE's original plan was to build towards a longterm rivalry involving The Queen and RAW Women's Champion Asuka.
This is reportedly why Flair was kept strong in terms of booking while she was NXT Women's Champion (she never lost to any NXT Superstars by pinfall), and while she obviously lost the title at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, it was Rhea Ripley who took the loss, not Flair.
After being moved to RAW, the groundwork was clearly being laid for her to challenge for the brand's top title, but that then changed, hence why she was written off television thanks to an attack by Nia Jax.
We'll hopefully see her back in the ring soon, and will be sure to keep you updated if we hear more about future plans for The Queen.
