WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross Isn't A Fan Of How WWE Is Promoting Brock Lesnar In The Buildup To SUMMERSLAM
On the latest episode of WrestleZone Radio, Jim "JR" Ross discussed WWE's booking of Brock Lesnar as a guy who hates the company in the buildup to his title defence at SummerSlam, and he's not a big fan...
When Brock Lesnar was due to defend the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, they leaned on the notion that The Beast had no respect for the company or the fans in the hopes that the WWE Universe would finally get behind The Big Dog.
Although the New Orleans crowd ultimately shit all over the match itself, this did succeed in getting Reigns over as a babyface (well, kinda) during the buildup, so it's probably not surprising that they're taking the same approach for the pair's upcoming rematch as SummerSlam.
One man who doesn't agree with this type of storyline, however, is WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, who doesn't believe that the "negative sell" is the way to go.
Here's what Good Ol' JR had to say while speaking on WrestleZone Radio:
“In hindsight it’s easier for us all to judge, myself included. Everybody likes to be a Monday morning quarterback and since we are recording this on Monday morning… I guess it’s quarterback time.
I would not have taken that approach. I do not believe in doing a negative sell. I just don’t think you get anything out of it. I think it’s the wrong kinds of emotions that you are attempting to create. I believe that, in my view, I would have taken a different route. That doesn’t mean that their route is wrong it just means that I don’t get it yet.”
What do you guys make of Ross' comments? Do you agree that WWE is making a mistake promoting Lesnar as an asshole who hates the company? Sound off below.
