During a recent interview with PW Insider, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle addressed his decision to turn down WWE's offer to manage SmackDown Superstar Matt Riddle. As you may recall, he ended up serving as the special guest referee for the Cage Fight between Riddle and Timothy Thatcher on an episode of NXT.
That was Riddle's last match as part of the developmental brand before he was called up to the main roster, and despite the fact Angle had just been furloughed as a producer, he still didn't want to return to television for two very good reasons.
He wanted to focus on Physically Fit Nutrition and WWE didn't offer him enough money.
"Two reasons – one was my company I started needed my attention 100%, especially with the virus thing and I had to just be there for the company and the other thing was the money, it just…it wasn’t enough," Angle admitted. "I wasn’t going to manage somebody for the amount of money they wanted to give me."
Honestly, that's fair enough, and given Angle's star status (not that WWE really gave that much thought during his last run in the company), offering him an insignificant pay day is definitely an insult.
Do you think Riddle has fared okay without the Olympic Gold Medallist?
