WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has spent the past few years talking about stepping back into the squared circle, but after a series of health issues that nearly killed him, WWE was never going to let that happen. The 73-year-old has since parted ways with the sports entertainment giant, and while a rumoured AEW debut was nixed due to various controversies, the Nature Boy has been training hard.
In fact, it's been reported that Flair is working with Jay Lethal for an in-ring return that will see him come out of retirement to wrestle again. Now, Dave Meltzer has shared some additional details.
"He is planning to wrestle again, yes. I don’t know more details. He told me it was a secret but the rumor has it [that it’s] Ric Flair and FTR against The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and somebody," he says. "A match that he is training for [but] not right away. I guess it will get announced when it gets announced if it happens. Something like this could fall through, he could get hurt in training."
Some wrestlers have competed at this age, of course, but not with the level of health issues Flair has battled. Meltzer noted that he doesn't know when and where this match will take place and expressed grave concerns over the legendary wrestler's plans to compete again, even in a tag team match.
Fans on social media have expressed concerns over the possibility of Flair dying in the ring, and it's fair to say that's not something any of us would ever want to see happen. Hopefully, he can pull off the match in a safe way and without tarnishing his legacy as some retired veterans previously have.
