Following reports that WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin turned down possible matches with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, it sounds like the company is still trying to get the Texas Rattlesnake out of retirement.
He returned at last year's Show of Shows to face Kevin Owens in a memorable main event, and Fightful Select is now reporting that their WWE sources believe Austin is open to the idea of another WrestleMania match if the money and situation are right. The question is, who should he face?
It sounds like Austin would rather not appear in another marquee bout, likely taking the pressure off him somewhat. Among the ideas pitched to the iconic pro wrestler is a match against LA Knight, an unexpected opponent but one with plenty of potential.
Talking of Knight, WrestlingNews.co has heard that those within WWE are very happy with his work and the crowd reactions he's been getting at recent live events. Triple H was instrumental in helping the former NXT star ditch the "Max Dupri" moniker given to him by Vince McMahon, and is said to have big plans for him beyond the Show of Shows.
Apparently, once WrestleMania is done, The Game wants to give Knight a push and seeing as he faced Cody Rhodes in a standout match during last night's RAW, we can't help but wonder whether a WWE title feud might be in his immediate future.
Knight has made a big deal out of being in Hollywood for WrestleMania, so even if it isn't a match, a segment with Austin could do wonders for him.
After all, how better to get fans to take him seriously than by putting Knight in a key segment during WWE's biggest event of the year?
