SummerSlam is one of the biggest shows of the year for WWE, and since Money in the Bank, the card has quickly started taking shape.
However, at least one match has had to change. According to multiple outlets, WWE had been hoping to build to Undisputed Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens defending their titles against the reunited DIY, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.
Needless to say, that could have been the best match on the entire card.
As for why it's not taking place, it's due to the fact Gargano still isn't fully cleared to return after being injured. Last night's RAW saw Ciampa lose to The Miz after being attacked by Bronson Reed, suggesting that feud is the current creative direction for him until Gargano is able to wrestle again.
It's said Owens and Zayn will "100%" be on the SummerSlam card and, after RAW, we'd imagine the plan is for them to face The Judgement Day. What combination of Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio they square off with obviously remains to be seen.
Seth Rollins doesn't currently have an opponent at the PLE, but it was strongly hinted that Balor wants to face him again, so another match between the two old rivals may well be the plan right now.
Here's the current rumoured card for next month's SummerSlam:
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso
Intercontinental Championship
Gunther vs. Drew McIntyre
Women's Undisputed Championship
Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair
